United States Control over internet Domain names has ended

United States will hand over its authority over domain names
The United States has confirmed that they are withdrawing from the authority of internet domain system. It will be the end of America's 20-year dominance of the system which is the main part of the control over the Internet.

Domain naming system or DNS is one of the most important components of the Internet. It connects the easily remembered web address such as google.com to relevant server.

You can imagine that if there is no DNS the and you want to access a website you have to write like this 194.69.73.01. which is absolutely not easy to remember.

However, the control of United States over DNS was because of circumstances rather than deliberate.
Now this authority will be transferred from United States to a Non-Governmental organization Icann (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers).

In October Last year according to an expert “Icann will now have the key of the castle”. It looks the dominance of the United States will be over but there is another thing that Icann is located in a city of United States Los Angeles.

However, web users should not worry because Icann has many years’ experience of doing this job.
There are many US politicians who are criticizing on this development. As they think that it will open the doors of a system for the countries like China and Russia which was always under "American security".

Several Republican senators, including former presidential candidate Ted Cruz has signed a letter stating: "This proposal will increase the power of foreign governments on the Internet."

There is strong argument “Can Icann will be able to do this job according to its requirements”.

The Icann was formed in 1998 in order to assign the web address. Before there was an individual
John postal who do this work and was said to be “The Lord of Internet”.

At that time John postal was in charge of postal Internet Assigned Numbers Authority. He left soon after the inception of the Icann.

Yet the US National Telecommunications and Information Administration Communications (NTIA) was the final authority on domain names. The Institute is part of the US Commerce Department.

This thing will change from October. Because The US Government will not be able to interfere in the affairs of internet domains system through NTIA.

There was a strong demand of China and Russia to United States to handover DNS control to United Nations.

The US government rarely interfere in domain names matter an example of this came when Icann wanted to launch a new domain name “xxx” for pornography. But the US Government was against it. This domain was finally adopted.

After October Icann will be answerable to various stakeholders including countries, businesses and organizations.

According to University of Surrey Professor Alan Woodward, “This is a huge change. Now the internet will come under the control of various stakeholders from the rule of single country. It's true global solution for a global asset. "

The United States is voluntarily stepping down from this authority. If he wants to remain on driving seat he could do. it is recognized that Withdrawing the Internet is a key part of its international diplomacy.
Other countries, especially China and Russia emphasizing UN that DNS should be run under the UN International Telecommunication Union.

There was a draft of an agreement was introduced but the United States, Britain and Canada had objected to the dominance of other countries on the ground of human rights violations.

Instead of United Nations America agreed to handover this power to Icann.
