Saudi Computer on 7th Position in The World

For the first time in the history that a computer made in Middle East has been added to ten most powerful super computers in the world.
This computer in named as “Shaheen 2” and this computer is installed in King Abdullah University of Science and Technology. “Shaheen 2” has XC40 processor and this is the seventh most powerful computer in the world.
This was confirmed by “Top Five Hundred”. This company reviews the performance of super computers worldwide.
The Chinese “Tianhe-2 (MilkyWay-2)” is still at No.1 position in the world.
Shaheen 2 has got this position when “Top Five Hundred” published its ranking which is published twice a year.
Shaheen 2 has 5,537 (TFlop/s) speed.
King Abdullah University of Science and Technology has spent 80 Million Dollars to buy, install and run this Super Computer. The computer which was installed before at this place was 25 time less from this computer.
This Super Computer uses two hundred thousand processors. Which are connected too each other with more than six thousands nodes. This computer has 17.6 petabyte storage capacity and its central memory has 790 terabyte capacity.
Compared to this the No.1 position holder of Chinese Computer has sixteen thousands Nodes with the ability of 33.86 petaflops.

1 petaflops = 4 Trillion Calculations/Second

If a human do this work. He will take (32000 years) thirty two thousand years.
This Super Computer will be used to research about renewable energy, dynamics of the atmosphere and turbulence created by planes engines.
King Abdullah University’s partner want to use it also to Trace minerals, mineral fuels and raw materials processing.



According to Top Five Hundred they have noticed a decline in the power of the computers around the world. Because of which there are only few new super computers to be seen. Top 10 most powerful computer were made in 2011 and 2012.
